Down by the Riverside” (also known as “Ain’t Gonna Study War No More” and “Gonna lay down my burden”) is a gospel song. First recorded by the Fisk University Jubilee Quartet in 1920 (published by Columbia in 1922). There are at least 14 gospel recordings before World War II. This upbeat, rousing version will keep your choir on their toes. Not too difficult, so stick with it and you will raise the roof.
