Alan Simmons Music

Written by Gavin Sutherland this was first recorded by The Sutherland Bros. Band in June 1972. Of course, we are all more familiar with the Rod Stewart version from 1975 (incidentally it is still Stewart’s biggest-selling single in the UK, with sales of over a million copies). Your choir can really make this arrangement work, with wonderful, dramatic dynamics and interplay between the voices. An arrangement that when woven together by your choir will provide a spectacular concert piece (beware – the audience will definitely join in).

I have sung this arrangement with two choirs. It is a popular song for choristers and gives the bass sections a chance toshow off their solo skills. Keep your eyes on your MD, chaps, because there’s usually many arms waving with the occasional scarf flying high. A pleasure to sing!
