What a fantastic song for boys. This is perfect for getting reluctant boys to sing – that’s what it was written for.

The choir should, if possible, be tiered as if they are standing on football terraces. Capturing the excitement of going to watch your team play, it can be performed as if on terraces.This song was written primarily to get reluctant boys to sing (but girls are welcome to sing too!) It’s musically quite simple, the words are engaging and it splits simply into 2, 3 and then 4 parts! But don’t be afraid, the children will love it.It was first performed at the National Festival of Music for Youth and subsequently at the Schools Prom by a choir of eighty boys from Holmfirth High School, West Yorkshire. Any performance will be enhanced by the addition of certain visual effects.

When you start this song, don’t attempt to tackle the 2nd, 3rd and 4th parts straight away.

Once the children are confident with the tune, teach them the second and third vocal lines. Again, once you feel confident, split the children into four groups (ideally with an adult leading each group) and sing the parts together.

This song is written for Key Stages 2, 3 (and even 4) with these purposes in mind

  • It allows the children to understand part singing by introducing each part as a different tune.
