Winter Sport is fun two part song that is ideal for 6-12 year old children (Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3). Ideal for a non religious winter concert, this is good for literacy in the curriculum and a great way to teach good diction.It’s also especially good for snow days – waiting for parents to pick up. What fun you can have with this piece in the winter term – what self respecting child wouldn’t prefer to be out in the snow enjoying winter sport?

Winter Sport is written for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 with these purposes in mind

1. It should be enjoyable enough for the children to want to sing it.2. It allows the children to understand part singing by introducing each part as a different tune.

Teaching notes

Split your singers into two groups, but start by teaching the piece the whole way through. Once you are confident, try bringing the second verse together in the two parts. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work straight away – you’ll get there. Timing is crucial – so try to ensure that children come off the notes each time they finish a phrase.
